Newborn Workshopping in Melbourne in 2014

Late in 2013 after I had decided that I would pursue my photography on a more serious level I debated whether to study an AIPP approved course or do professionally run workshops in a genre that I would like to follow. I decided to follow the workshop line of education to better my skills.

Early in 2014 I saw that Melbourne based photographer, Emily Black was running a workshop in her studio so I decided that I would take the plunge and attend her workshop as my first in the genre of newborn and maternity photography, something that I loved the idea of photographing more but didn’t quite have the skills to be completely confident in shooting on a more serious basis. Emily’s workshop was in early May and from that I learned a LOT! I also met some wonderful photographers, of which I was the least experienced.

As a result of the Emily Black workshop my photography improved a lot and I found photographing babies was something that I enjoyed more and more. But I could see I still needed improvement so¬†sort out other workshops… I was becoming a workshop junkie!!

My next workshop was run by Noosa based lifestyle photographer, Anya Maria. I loved her style and as soon as I saw her work I knew I could gain a lot from watching her work and in early September I make the trip to Melbourne again for Anya’s workshop which was run from Sarah Black’s studio, which was BEAUTIFUL! Again another group of amazing photographers to chat with and learn from!

Less than a week after workshopping with Anya I made the trip back to Melbourne to meet with Lorna Kirby, another Melbourne based newborn photographer. Another amazing time with some fantastic photographers!

Travelling from Shepparton to attend workshops does require a lot of coordination with my young family but I have found them so very worth while, I have learned a lot and met some really wonderful people!

I have one more workshop this year, I will be attending Kelly Brown’s Newborn workshop in November ūüôā
